Information on the base layer clothing?
Ok, this may seem a silly question, but hey, I'm asking anyway. I needed a couple of thermal underwear to wear under my pants, as taking the bus and walk far out in the cold (-2 is now here in Minneapolis), so I went to North Side and bought a pair of synthetic base layer. The only problem is after I took off the tags and threw the box it came in, I realized I had bought the wrong size. I needed an L, but bought an XL. I tried it, and fit, but they are tight against my skin. So my question is as follows - no matter if your base coat is pressed against your skin? Does that affect the way that keeps you warm? I would think that having a bit of air between the legs and the tissue may actually help to keep your legs warmer if the fabric is tight against your skin. Am I wrong? Any advice for people using layers base would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
He is right in that airspace is equal to heat. The ideal cold installation consists of several layers that create airspace. The first is an absorbing base layer next to your skin that wicks moisture away from you, and then a layer of insulation as the wool that helps trap dead air space, and lastly, water and the wind shield and nylon that keeps the wind and water out. I think the pants will have no problem as long as the humidity does not become a problem. If you start to sweat because of the activity and the base layer is not capable of removing the moisture of his, the skin is cold pressed layer due to the presence water in the skin. I usually wear long Johns polypropylene as a separate skin. This helps wick moisture away from your skin so you remain dry and warm, even if you are physically active. You can get for $ 10-15.
